Dress up a teddy like a gnome

Build a fairy garden

Equipment – either in a shoe box, plant pot or just in a nice shady space in your garden, gather leaves, twigs and recyclable material, make an eco-friendly garden for a fairy/pixie/gnome to live in

Decorate a Flower Pot Home

Use a flower pot turned upside down and decorate it as a home for a gnome; or decorate a toilet roll (or paper cup) and cut out windows and a door. Place a cake case on the top as  a roof and place an electric tea light inside

Create a Fairy Light Jar

Equipment – clean, empty jam jar, grease proof paper, black marker pens, electric tealight or fairy lights

Cut a piece of greaseproof paper the same width of the jam jar. Draw flowers, fairies, toadstools on the greaseproof paper in black marker pen. You could use black paper and cut out silhouettes and stick them to the greaseproof paper. Stick the paper to outside of the jar. Pop in the electric tea light or fairy lights and be amazed!

Make your own magic wand

Equipment – a stick or you could use a drum stick or wooden spoon; material or paper to wrap around it; glue or sticky tape to secure the material or paper; streamers or ribbons, stickers to decorate.

Make or decorate fairy cakes

Day 2 Alien Creatures


Make finger print aliens

Equipment – paint or ink; paper and felt tips – googly eyes optional

Dip you finger in the paint or ink and make finger prints on a piece of paper. Leave to dry. Then draw legs/arms/eyes/antennae – anything that your alien creatures might need! Here is an example -> http://mykidcraft.com/googly-aliens/

Biscuit aliens

Equipment – any biscuits, icing (either glace or fondant) smarties, chocolate buttons

Create aliens on biscuits and use smarties as eyes

Alien space ship

Using junk – model a fantastical space ship for your alien

Build a three legged alien

Using Lego or other building blocks create a 3 legged alien that must be able to support itself.

Make alien milk – must only ever be drunk by aliens!

Equipment – shallow bowl or plate with a high rim (eg oven dish lid or Ikea plastic plate); milk, different coloured liquid food colouring; cotton wool balls and washing up liquid

Pour enough milk to cover the bottom of the dish about 1cm

Carefully drop dots of food colouring in patterns around the milk

Soak a cotton wool ball in washing up liquid so it is quite soggy and then gently place the ball in the middle of the milk and watch the colours flow!

Make toilet roll aliens

Equipment – toilet roll (empty), paper, paint, pipe cleaners and pompoms, googly eyes; stickers

Day 1 Mythical Creatures

Create a cave for a mythical creature using geodesic domes

Equipment – cocktail sticks and mini marshmallows/midget gems

Create a unicorn rainbow with a mirror

Equipment – small mirror, glass or shallow bowl of water, torch 

Position your glass of water on a table and then place the mirror inside it at an angle.

Make sure that the room is completely dark. …

Take the flashlight and aim the light towards the mirror that you placed inside the glass.

Watch a rainbow appear from the angle of your mirror.

Create dragon eggs

Equipment – playdough, salt dough or plastercine; sequins, tiny shells, painted tiny stones, anything that looks like jewels

Using either playdough, salt dough or plastercine shape it into an egg as big or small as you like. Decorate with anything shiny to create a beautiful dragon egg.

1 cupful of plain flour (about 250g)

half a cupful of table salt (about 125g)

half a cupful of water (about 125ml)

Make a mermaid whirligig

Equipment – One paper plate per mermaid:Your mermaid printable, click here for a template

there is a design your own hair mermaid.. and a finished one

Pens for coloring in and decorating your mermaid printable; Scissors; brushes and glue stick; String and stapler for hanging

Stick the template onto a paper plate with glue and cut out. Decorate with pens or paint. Staple the string to the back of the mermaids head and hold up and watch it spin! Make another one and make the tail either thinner or thicker and see if that makes the mermaid spin quicker of slower

Fabulous Fantastic Beasts

Looking for something to do over the Easter holidays? We will be running a 5 day virtual event with activities launched each day from the 29th March at 10 am, but you can do the activities any time.
